2025 -Lee Tartt Nature Preserve 5/3; Spring Wings

Join OPC Outdoors for a day at the Lee Tartt Nature Preserve, as they celebrate all things with wings. The LTNP consist of 300 acres of natural habitat and interpretive areas at Chakchiuma Swamp. This area is critical habitat for wildlife in the City of Grenada, including migratory and non-migratory birds and, is, protected land within a larger natural system along the Yalobusha River and near thousands of publicly protected acres at Grenada Lake and Malmaison Wildlife Management Area.


The Spring Wings event will celebrate all things with wings - Neotropical songbirds and wading birds are arriving to raise families and monarch and other butterflies are emerging to feast on native plants. Learn more and celebrate at Spring Wings!

The event and activities are free. There will also be opportunities to purchase native plants, artwork and other nature / LTNP items. Please visit www.friends-of-cs.org/events for further details.

2025 T25 BASKETBALL CAMP - June 26&27

Coached by the Best High School Coaches in the State of Mississippi, Hosted by coach Kermit Davis. 

Tomorrow's 25 is an innovative coaching fellowship, presented by the Mississippi Association of Coaches (MAC), the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA), and the University of Mississippi’s School of Education (UM SOE), that annually selects and invests in 25 future leaders for our state in the area of high school and middle school athletics. T25 Basketball Camp is an extension of this fellowship and is made up of alumni basketball coaches from this fellowship.

Kermit Davis, Jr. Bio: 
Kermit Davis, Jr., a former head college basketball coach who led six different programs over a 25-year period while amassing just under 500 wins, is one of Mississippi's greatest ambassadors for basketball in the Magnolia state. Davis played and started his coaching career at Mississippi State and finished his career as the head coach of the Ole Miss Rebels, where he was named the 2019 SEC Coach of the Year.

Dr. Hunter Taylor Bio: 
Dr. Hunter A. Taylor is an Associate Professor at the University of Mississippi and founder of the Excellence in Coaching Project. The Project’s signature program, Tomorrow’s 25, is currently in year three of existence and has an annual goal of selecting and investing 25 high school and middle school coaches from across the state who have demonstrated a positive, long-term commitment to being a leader for amateur athletics in Mississippi.

Enjoy a father's day activity with your children!

2025 Youth Cheerleading Basketball - Summer

The Oxford Park Commission's Youth Cheerleading program is for kids age 6 – 14. Participants must turn 6 years of age on or before September 1st of the current year. The Cheer teams will be lead by Kristi Yancy. Please sign up for a volunteer role if you can coach. Cheer will have four seasons two cheering for Youth Flag Football and two cheering for Youth Basketball. Cheering will not be a competitive sport. They will be assigned a football and basketball team to cheer for.


Cost is $50/player if you are a new cheerleader or $25 if returning from flag football season.

2025 Barton Outfitters Youth Fishing Camp - Summer

Barton Outfitters Youth Summer Fishing Camp is an immersive, instructive and practical fishing experience where youth ages 6-16 will learn about fishing ecology, fish biology, angling rules/ethics/regulations, fish identification, knot tying, basic rigging, casting, species targeting, lure making, trot line and gross fishing, and cleaning and cooking your catch. Participants will have the opportunity to fish each day for a variety of species at a local body of water including bass, catfish and crappie, culminating with two days of guided fishing on Sardis Lake with local licensed fishing guides. 

Day camp is our primary fishing camp offering and will largely follow the format of our 2024 camps. Depending on the bite and weather conditions, we will fish primarily at Sardis Lake or Enid Lake. Drop off will be communicated prior to the first day of camp (and adjusted, if necessary, by communication via text). Day camp is run by the CPR and First aid-Certified, Licensed Professional Fishing Guides of Barton Outfitters. We also employ CPR and First Aid certified counselors who are subject to stringent background checks. Campers will receive a hat, fishing rod and fillets of their catch, ready for the table. On poor weather days, we will meet at Lamar Park/Lake Patsy.

All participants will receive a rod/reel combo and hat.

2025 Summer Day Camps - Summer

Camps are for kids ages 5-13 during Summer Break. This year, the camps will run from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday-Friday. The first session will be May 27th - May 30th, the second session will be June 2nd - June 27th, and the third session will be July 8th - July 31st. The camp is full of activities with field trips, swimming, arts and crafts, tabletop games and much more. We will have lunch at the Oxford Intermediate School. If you have a picky eater, you may let them, bring lunch. Breakfast is provided if your child is here by 7:45am and lunch is provided as well. Each kid is required to bring two snacks a day. We do a lot of running activities, so please wear suitable clothing, as well as tennis shoes. You will receive an email with protocols and monthly calendars a week before camp starts.


(If you aren't able to register your child online, we are offering an additional opportunity starting Monday, March 31st at the Coach Howell Activity Center at starting 8 a.m.)

Adaptive Chair Yoga
In Adaptive Chair Yoga we structure the class to fit your needs with the use of props that can include a chair, blocks, straps, or bolsters. We will cover all the basic yoga poses with an emphasis on breath and alignment to work on strength and mobility without stress or strain. The class can be done exclusively sitting on a chair, or you can use the chair for support in standing or kneeling poses. You choose the level of adaptation that is right for you.

The Oxford Park Commission sponsors a youth basketball program for kids age 7–15 as of 9/1/2024. Registration for this program will come to a close on May 4. The 2025 Youth Basketball Summer Season Games will be played during the week on Wednesday evenings, early June - late July, while practices begin in May. Fee for the program is $45. 2025 North MS Wrestling Club - Spring/Summer

The objective of the class will be to introduce participants to the sport of wrestling and improve in a fun and exciting environment. Improve the individual's agility, strength, and self-confidence. Wrestling is a great way for your child to build character and learn self-defense. This program strives to build champions on and off the mat.

We will be focusing on folk-style wrestling.

2025 Sewing Classes for Beginners - Spring

In this program, “Sewing Classes for Beginners”, you will learn basic skills needed for understanding how to use your sewing machine. Your Instructor will explain and demonstrate fundamental machine and hand sewing techniques.

Course Objectives:
  • Using acquired skills to efficiently use their sewing machine
  • Proving basic instructional sewing techniques
  • Completing a final project during class

***Sewing machines, fabric & basic sewing supplies provided***

BEGINNING QUILTING
Dates: Saturdays, March 1 and March 29
Ages: Adults 18 years and up
Times: 10:00am-2:00pm
Location: Coach Howell Activity Center
Cost: $55/per session (does not include the $3.00 service fee & credit card convenience fee)
Program size: Maximum of 7

In this class, students will learn the fundamentals of both hand and machine quilting. Creating patterns and layouts, along with understanding the various types of quilting techniques will be covered.

BEGINNING ALTERATIONS
Dates: Saturdays, April 5 and April 26
Ages: Adults 18 years and up
Times: 10:00am-2:00pm
Location: Coach Howell Activity Center
Cost: $55/per session (does not include the $3.00 service fee & credit card convenience fee)
Program size: Maximum of 7

In this class, students will learn how to stitch basic garment alterations, such as hemming, fixing tears, correctly sewing on buttons, taking in and letting out seams, etc.

SIMPLE PILLOWS & APRONS
Dates: Saturdays, April 5 and April 26
Ages: Adults 18 years and up
Times: 10:00am-2:00pm

2025 T25 BASKETBALL CAMP - June 26&27

Coached by the Best High School Coaches in the State of Mississippi, Hosted by coach Kermit Davis. 

Tomorrow's 25 is an innovative coaching fellowship, presented by the Mississippi Association of Coaches (MAC), the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA), and the University of Mississippi’s School of Education (UM SOE), that annually selects and invests in 25 future leaders for our state in the area of high school and middle school athletics. T25 Basketball Camp is an extension of this fellowship and is made up of alumni basketball coaches from this fellowship.

Kermit Davis, Jr. Bio: 
Kermit Davis, Jr., a former head college basketball coach who led six different programs over a 25-year period while amassing just under 500 wins, is one of Mississippi's greatest ambassadors for basketball in the Magnolia state. Davis played and started his coaching career at Mississippi State and finished his career as the head coach of the Ole Miss Rebels, where he was named the 2019 SEC Coach of the Year.

Dr. Hunter Taylor Bio: 
Dr. Hunter A. Taylor is an Associate Professor at the University of Mississippi and founder of the Excellence in Coaching Project. The Project’s signature program, Tomorrow’s 25, is currently in year three of existence and has an annual goal of selecting and investing 25 high school and middle school coaches from across the state who have demonstrated a positive, long-term commitment to being a leader for amateur athletics in Mississippi.
